Bag & Baggage Productions is a professional theatre company based in Hillsboro, in the U.South. state of Oregon. Founded in 2005, the non-profit group presents about four productions per twelvemonth. Their habitation venue is "The Vault", a theater located in a sometime banking concern building in downtown Hillsboro, on East Main Street.

The visitor was co-founded in 2005 by several actors, including Scott Palmer, who graduated from Hillsboro High Schoolhouse in 1986.[1] [ii] In the early on years Bag & Baggage was a traveling theater grouping, making stops in communities around Oregon.[1] [two] [3] Performances in Hillsboro were held at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse and the Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center.[2] Other venues included the Hotel Oregon in McMinnville and the Withycombe Theatre in Corvallis, among others.[4]
Through May 2008 the visitor had put on nine productions.[two] In September 2008, Pocketbook & Baggage became the resident theater company at the Venetian Theatre in Downtown Hillsboro.[five] They opened their new flavor with Steel Magnolias.[v] [six] The Venetian had opened in June of that yr in the space that had been a flick theater, but had saturday vacant since 1996.[two]
Season ticket sales stood at 220 for the 2007 to 2008 season, and grew to 450 for the 2008 to 2009 season.[7] At the end of 2008 Bag & Baggage was only the 2nd professional group for alive theater in Washington County, the other being the Broadway Rose Theatre Company of Tigard.[1] [two] For Christmas in 2008, the theater company produced The Eight: Reindeer Monologues with four shows held at the Venetian.[i]
In July 2009, the visitor put on the first outdoor Shakespeare production by professionals ever held in the city.[vii] Held at the plaza in front end of the Hillsboro Civic Eye, the play was Romeo and Juliet, with the production paid for in office by the city.[7] [viii] In December 2009, they produced an adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.[9]
Purse & Baggage produced William Shakespeare'south The Taming of the Shrew and John Fletcher's retort to that play, The Woman's Prize, in a combined play in February 2010.[x] Theater critic Bob Hicks, writing nearly the performances for The Oregonian, said "... Bag & Luggage's doubleheader is more engaging in concept than onstage. As stimulating every bit the idea is, and as fun as the whole thing is in fits and starts, the acquit-through tin can get tiresome... ...too many balls in the air, not plenty ease in the juggling...".[10] Their version of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie later that year received a positive review by Holly Danks of The Oregonian.[11]
Pocketbook & Baggage Productions' main performance venue since 2017 is this old bank building, now known equally "The Vault" theater.
Bag and Baggage hosted an Oscar political party in March 2010 to show the 82nd Academy Awards live at the Venetian Theatre.[12] The company hoped to make information technology an annual fundraiser and become an official Oscar political party sanction by the University of Motility Picture show Arts and Sciences.[12] Creative director Scott Palmer's accommodation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol was labeled equally imaginative past Carol Wells in her review for The Oregonian in December 2011.[13] The group was awarded $11,600 by the Regional Arts & Culture Council in July 2012,[14] and introduced an adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus entitled Kabuki Titus that borrowed elements from Kabuki theater.[15] [16] They collaborated with the Tears of Joy Theatre in Dec 2012 for an adaptation of The Velveteen Rabbit.[17]
Productions [edit]
Handbag & Luggage usually produces four plays each season,[7] though they have had as many as vii in a unmarried season.[18] Although the resident theater company at the Venetian Theatre in Hillsboro, the group also performs at venues around Washington County including the fairgrounds, the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, and the Kingstad Center (now airtight), among others. Productions staged past the visitor have included The Importance of Being Earnest,[two] Infinite Variety,[2] Death of a Salesman,[three] and others.[xviii]
Bag and Baggage primarily puts on classic American and British dramas.[19] The not-turn a profit group is governed by a 14-member board of directors.[19] The creative director is Scott Palmer and Audra Petrie Veber serves as the product manager.[xix] They adopted the name of the company due to their early history equally a traveling troupe.[19] Purse and Luggage besides helps brainwash local students about theater, including providing tickets to county high school students.[12]

In 2015, Bag & Baggage was awarded the American Theatre Wing's National Theatre Company Grant.[twenty]
